Changing the Headliner

Changing the headliner is not hard to do,  it is actually very easy,  but it will take some time.  Before you start taking the headliner out make sure you have a free afternoon.

The first thing is taking all the trim off.  A fast power screwdriver will make it a lot quicker.  The front, back, and two side pieces of trim have plastic clips on the backside.  All you need is a flat screwdriver and carefully pry them loose.  As long as your careful they wont break.  Once you get all the trim loose the headliner will come right down.  Be careful not to bend it of it will break.

Here are all the trim pieces laying everywhere.

This is was rust starting on the inside so I sprayed some rust stop primer on.

This is the headliner before and after I cleaned the old foam of.  The old foam insulation comes off easy with a wire brush.  If you don't take it off the new headliner won't stick.

The new headliner went on really good.  I sprayed it and put it on about a foot at a time.  Notice that I let it wrap around the edge a couple inches.

After I got it back in the car I put all the trim back on (duh).  It looks a lot better than the old sagging headliner. (notice the windows are now tinted.  while the trim was off I figured it would be a good time to tint them).

Make sure you use two cans of glue and USE IT.  Otherwise you will be redoing it soon.  Don't worry about using to much,  it won't bleed through.  It was well worth it.  The headliner cost $29.99 and the glue cost $6.99ea from AutoZone.
